An ancient Indian herb known for its culinary and medicinal properties. A herb known in Indian kitchen for ages for its beneficial properties for improving intelligence..a brain tonic . 

Did you guess which herb am I talking about?? 

yes.. Gotu kola also known as Brahmi is a celebrated herb in ayurveda for its amazing medicinal and healing  properties. In Sanskrit it is known as Mandukaparni.

In kannada known as Ondelaga soppu ( single leaf) and in Tamil known as Vallari Kirai.

In ayurveda it is known for rejuvenating and anti-aging properties. 

It is also known to improve skin quality, voice strengthening and  improve digestion. 

It is known as Medhya rasayana – brain tonic. 

When eaten raw it is slightly bitter with cold potency . It is said to balance kapha and pitta. 

It is no wonder that this herb made its way  into our kitchens to be used as a part of culinary preparation. one of the well known preparations to include this wonder herb in our diet is Tambuli or tambli. 

It is a lip smacking and finger licking preparation made with freshly grated coconut , peppercorns, Cumin, slightly toasted leaves and salt. This is completed with addition of buttermilk and seasoned with mustard seeds, hing, dry chili and curry leaves in coconut oil. 

Some people have it at the beginning of the meal with rice. At home we prefer to have it at the end of the meal.

Like I always write my country never ceases to amaze me with its diverse food culture knowledge and wisdom.
