The law of “Karma” is one of most important Spiritual laws of success. Because Karma is one of the seeds of our Soul. It is a cause and effect simultaneously.
I think, this particular law is having a very close relationship with The spiritual laws of success – The Law of Giving. “Karma” is both action and the consequence of that action.
~*~ Karma is the eternal assertion of human freedom.
Our thoughts, our words, and deeds
are the threads of the net which we throw around ourselves ~*~
– Swami Vivekananda
You might already know about this expression “What you sow is what you reap”.
The Karma
If we want to be happy in our lives and around us, we must learn to sow the seeds of happiness.
The Karma is nothing but the choice of making an action. Choice of action may or may not be made consciously – remember this.
In our daily lives, we make infinite choices in everything we do. We have access to an infinite number of choices. Some of these choices are made consciously and others are made unconsciously.
Whether I or you like it or not, everything that is happening at this moment in our lives is a result of the choices we have made in the past. Unfortunately, a lot of the choices we make unconsciously, and hence we think they are not the choices – But, they are.
Choices have become conditioned reflexes – How?
As infinite choice makers, we have become bundles of conditioned reflexes (action without conscious thought) that are constantly triggered by people around us, circumstances. These reflexes have become predictable outcomes of behaviour
These conditioned reflexes are like Pavlovian conditioning. Or classical conditioning.
As result of conditioning, we have become repetitive predictable responders. Our reactions seem to be automatically triggered by people and circumstances. We totally forget that these are still the choices we are making in everyday life. And these are the choices made unconsciously.
For a moment, step back! And witness the choices you are making. You can turn whole process from unconscious into the conscious realm
The Choices
Life is all about choices. There is only one choice you have to make, out of the infinity of choices available in every second, that will create happiness for you as well as for those around you.
When you make that one choice, it will result in a form of behaviour that is called spontaneous right action. Spontaneous right action (Karma) at the right moment. It’s the right response to every situation as it happens.
Mechanism to help you to make correct choices
Our body experiences two kinds of sensations: one is sensation of comfort, the other is sensation of discomfort.
When you are making a choice consciously, pay attention to your body. If your body sends a message of comfort, that’s the right choice. If your body sends a message of discomfort, then it’s not the right choice.
For some people the message of comfort and discomfort is in the area of the solar plexus/ Celiac plexus, but most people it’s in the area of heart.
Consciously put your attention in the heart and ask your heart what to do. Then wait for the response, the response will be in the form of sensation. It may be the faintest level of feeling, but it is there.
The Heart
Only the heart knows the correct answer. People think that the heart is sentimental. Some say don’t listen to your heart and listen to your mind, etc. But it is not true. The heart is intuitive; it’s holistic, it is contextual, it’s relational .
It does not have win-lose orientation. It taps into cosmic computer – The field of pure potentiality, pure knowledge, and infinite organising power. And takes everything into account.
At times it may not even seem rational, but the heart has a computing ability that is far more accurate and far more precise than anything within the limits of rational thought.
The past Karma
What is past karma and how it is influencing you now? In present life
Past Karma is like debt, as per law of karma, no debt in the universe goes unpaid. There is a perfect accounting system in this universe, and everything is a constant “to and fro” exchange of energy.
Three ways to do about our past karma
One is to pay our karmic debts. Most people choose to do that, unconsciously! This may be our choice also. Sometimes there’s a lot of suffering involved in the payment of those debts.
The second thing we can do is transmute or transform our karma to a more desirable experience. In this process, we should inquire why it happened to me and what is the message that the universe is giving to me? How can I make this experience useful to my fellow human beings?
For example, something bad happens to us or somebody near & dear to us. Then think how can I avoid this thing not to happen to others. By doing this you look for an opportunity to correct your past karma by tying with dharma. We will discuss Dharam more in detail in future articles.
The third way to deal with karma is to transcend (go beyond the limits of karma) it. Transcend karma is to become independent of it. That means, keep experiencing the gap, the Self, the Spirit.
It is like washing a dirty piece of cloth, every time you wash it, you take away a few stains. You wash again and again or transcend the seeds of your karma going into gap and coming back.
This can be done through regular practice of meditation.
When we become a conscious choice-maker, the fruit of karma will be happiness and success.
Applying the Law of Karma in our life
Conscious Choice: Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment. I will bring them to my conscious awareness
Ask two questions: Whenever I make a choice, I will ask two questions: “What are the consequences of this choice I’m making” and will this choice bring fulfilment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by my choice.
Follow Heart: I will ask my heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, I will plunge ahead with abandon. If the choice feels uncomfortable, I will pause and see the consequences of my action with my inner vision.
This guidance will enable me to make spontaneously correct choices for myself and for all around me.
The operational software of our soul is Karma, memory and desire.
About spiritual laws of success
I was reading an article on success, in which someone mentioned about the book called ‘The seven spiritual laws of success’ by Deepak Chopra. Till that time, I was reading a lot on how to become successful in life, how to earn money, how one should be focused towards success.
One must read this book. Even though I read it, I still spend time to ponder over deep thoughts presented by an author in the book and try to understand it.
Based upon my little understanding of what I pursued, I prepared a gist of it for you.
Hope you enjoyed the article. In the next article we will ponder over “The Law of Least Effort”.
